Do you wish you could snap your fingers and correct your smile? With porcelain dental veneers, you can do just that. In as little as two dental appointments, you can overhaul your smile, changing the shape, color, length and width of your natural teeth. Reviving your smile is as easy as asking your Lakewood, CO dentist Dr. Richard Morse about porcelain dental veneers.
What are veneers?
Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain fitted over the front of the teeth to change their appearance. Made by a lab technician in a dental laboratory, dental veneers are customized and color-matched to your teeth. This ensures the most natural appearance possible. Since the laboratory needs time to make the veneers, the process of fitting them spans over two appointments.
At the first appointment, your dentist takes a mold of your teeth. The laboratory technician uses this mold as a model to create the veneers. Your dentist then prepares your teeth by shaving a tiny amount of enamel off the front. This makes room for the width of the veneer and “roughs up” the surface, giving the adhesive something to grasp onto. Temporary veneers are placed onto the teeth until the permanent restorations are completed. At your second appointment, your dentist removes the temporary veneers. He or she then checks the fit of each veneer against your natural teeth and shapes them if necessary. The veneers are permanently cemented onto the teeth and your new veneers are ready to enjoy.
Are veneers right for me?
You can benefit from veneers if you wish to correct one of the following imperfections:
- chipped teeth
- cracked teeth
- misaligned teeth
- gapped teeth
- stained or yellowed teeth
- too short or too long teeth
- worn down teeth
Good candidates for veneers have generally good oral health. They also have a great at-home oral hygiene routine as keeping your teeth clean and healthy is vital to the life of your veneers. Additionally, the teeth’s structure must be healthy enough to support the veneers. Your dentist can help you determine the best treatment plan for your situation.
